Understanding Heatstroke: Many people here are unfamiliar with heatstroke, a condition that often occurs in pets during the summer. Pets naturally enjoy sunbathing or seeking warm temperatures to relax and recharge. However, this sunbathing can be dangerous if done at the wrong time or for too long, potentially causing more harm than good. Today, we'll explain how heatstroke occurs, how to prevent it, and provide some answers and prevention tips to help you observe and avoid serious harm to your pet.

Heat stroke is a condition where a pet's body temperature becomes excessively high. This can be caused by excessive sun exposure or being in the sun at the wrong times, preventing them from regulating their body temperature normally. This can lead to internal organ dysfunction because pets have less efficient heat regulation methods than humans, lacking the natural hair follicles that humans possess. It can be life-threatening if not treated immediately.

Common causes in pets.

- Extremely hot or stuffy weather with no ventilation
- Being locked inside a car
- Exercising in the sun or sunbathing at the wrong time
- Not having enough drinking water

First aid procedures (to be done immediately)

1. Immediately move them to a shaded area/air-conditioned room to lower the surrounding temperature.
2. Lower their body temperature gradually.

    - Use room temperature water (not ice cold/cold water) to rinse your body.
    - Wipe areas such as armpits, groin, underbelly, and soles of feet.
    - Turn on a fan to help dissipate heat.

Do not use ice-cold water or ice packs, as this will cause blood vessels to constrict, making it more difficult to dissipate heat.

3. Immediately move them to a shaded area/air-conditioned room to lower the surrounding temperature first.
4. Lower their body temperature gradually.

If left untreated, heatstroke can lead to shock, seizures, organ failure, and death. ⚠️ Heatstroke is a medical emergency and requires immediate assistance and veterinary care.
